BRITISH EMBASSY AND TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR

Good Governance: Sharing Good Practice and Lessons Learned

The British Embassy and the Baku office of Transparency International will hold a seminar on 6 November entitled Supporting Good Governance: Sharing Good Practice and Lessons Learned”. The British Embassy has brought Jeremy Pope, co-founder of Transparency International, to Azerbaijan to present a keynote speech at the seminar.  He will share his experiences of promoting Good Governance in other countries around the world.

Representatives of Government Ministries, International Organisations and Oil companies will attend the seminar on 6 November. The British Ambassador, Andrew Tucker, will chair the seminar.

In his presentation Jeremy Pope will discuss the main pillars of Good Governance. Based on his experience from around the world, he will outline a methodology which is designed to assess National Integrity Systems in a more detailed and objective way than other measurements of good governance.

Sabit Bagirov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Chapter of Transparency International, will also speak at the seminar with a particular emphasis on the oil and gas industry and the economic impact of expected revenues.

On 7 November, Jeremy Pope will present the methodology for discussion by Local and International NGOs. This seminar will take place at the NGO Resource Centre.

The British Ambassador, Andrew Tucker, said:  “In an increasingly global market place, every nation has an interest in promoting good governance throughout the world.  Delivering effective public service is the duty of all government officers.  Exchanging best practice helps us learn how to perform that task. That is why the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Global Futures Fund has supported this seminar.”
